About chatpoo
Last updated: 2026-11-04
chatpoo is a free chat site for adults. You can join topic rooms or talk to a stranger with no sign-up, or create an account to keep a profile, friends and your private chats. This page explains in plain language what happens to what you write.
Who it is for
You must be 18 or older. Anyone reported as under 18 is suspended straight away while a moderator checks.
Guests and accounts
- Guests need no email or password. Your name is held only while you are online, and your chats are temporary.
- Accounts reserve your username, and add a profile, friends, blocks that last, offline messages and saved private chats.
What is saved, and for how long
- Room messages: shown to the room and kept only briefly so newcomers see recent messages. Only the latest 50 per room are kept, with no time limit, and everyone in the room sees the same history.
- Private chats where a guest is involved: temporary. They are not saved in a database. The latest 100 messages are held briefly and disappear when the server restarts.
- Private chats between two registered users: the latest 100 messages are saved for 7 days, then deleted automatically. You can read the history again when you sign back in. If either of you deletes their account, the whole conversation is deleted for both of you.
- Images: deleted after 24 hours. A saved chat may still mention an image that is no longer available.
- Reports: when you report someone, we keep a short snapshot of the messages around it (up to 20) so a moderator can see what happened, plus the reported person's hashed network address and device ID. These are kept while needed for safety.
- Account details: email, hashed password, profile and friends, until you delete your account.
- Network address and device: stored only as a scrambled (hashed) value, used for rate limits and to enforce bans. We do not store your raw IP address.
Who can see your messages
- The people in the room or chat you send them to.
- Moderators, only for messages included in a report. The saved private chats are not browsed by staff day to day.
- Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. People who administer the server can technically read what is stored, including saved private chats. We only look when handling a report, fixing a fault or responding to a legal requirement.
- Anyone you message can copy or screenshot it, so share carefully.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data or run advertising trackers.
- We do not read private chats in advance.
- We do not automatically scan images for explicit content. We rely on blurring by default, your reports and moderator review.
Your controls
- Block anyone: they cannot message you and you will not see each other in rooms.
- Report a user or message to the moderators.
- Signed-in users can download their data and delete their account from the profile page.
- Leave any chat at any time, or press Next when talking to a stranger.
