This explains what we collect, why, and for how long.
What we collect
- Profile details you enter: username, gender, age and country (country is pre-filled from your network location).
- Messages and images you send, so they can be delivered and moderated.
- A hashed form of your IP address and a random device ID, used for rate limits and to enforce bans. We do not store your raw IP address.
- If you create an account: your email, a hashed password (or Google account ID), and the optional bio and profile picture you add. Friends, blocks and messages sent while you were offline are stored with the account.
- If you create an account: your email, a hashed password (or Google account ID), and the optional bio and profile picture you add. Friends, blocks and messages sent while you were offline are stored with the account.
- Reports about users, including a short snapshot of the surrounding messages.
Why
To run the chat, keep people safe, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your data and we do not use advertising trackers.
How long we keep it
- Public room messages: only the latest 50 per room are kept, with no time limit.
- Private chats where a guest is involved: temporary, not saved in a database. Only the latest 100 messages are held briefly, and they are gone when the server restarts.
- Private chats between two registered users: the latest 100 messages are saved for 7 days, then deleted automatically. Deleting either account deletes the conversation for both people.
- Messages waiting for an offline account: deleted once delivered.
- Account data: kept until you delete your account.
- Images: deleted automatically after 24 hours.
- Reports, bans and moderator audit logs: kept while needed for safety and legal reasons.
Your rights
Signed-in users can download their data and delete their account from the profile page. Depending on where you live you may have further rights, such as to access, correct, export or delete your data. Contact us and we will respond within the legal time limit: you@example.com
Cookies
See the Cookie Policy for the cookies and browser storage we use.
Who can read saved messages
Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. Moderators see messages included in a report. People who administer the server could technically read saved private chats; we only look when handling a report, fixing a fault or meeting a legal requirement. The About page explains this in plain language.
This page is a starting template, not legal advice. Have it reviewed for your jurisdiction before launch.
