How we keep the chat safe
Published
Safety is not one feature. It is a set of layers that work together.
Before you chat
Everyone confirms they are 18 or older. New sessions cannot send links or images for their first minutes, which stops most drive-by spam.
While you chat
- Messages are rate limited, and repeated messages are blocked.
- Moderators keep a banned-words list for each language.
- Rooms can be put in slow mode or closed if they get out of hand.
- You can block anyone, and neither of you will see the other's messages.
When you report someone
Reports go to a moderator queue together with a short snapshot of the messages around the incident, so moderators can see what happened even though chats are not kept for long. A moderator can dismiss the report, mute, remove or ban the person. Bans can apply to a session, a device or a network address, for a set time or permanently.
Reports saying someone looks under 18 are handled differently: the person is suspended immediately, and a moderator reviews it afterwards.
What we do not do
We do not read private chats in advance and we do not run automatic image scanning. We rely on you to report problems, and on the limits above. Public messages are deleted after a few days, private guest chats when the session ends, and images after a day.
Accountability
Every moderator action is written to an audit log, so decisions can be reviewed.
If you spot something that needs attention, press Report. It helps everyone.
